The Federation of Irish Sports - Official Partner

The Federation of Irish Sports - Official Partner

The Federation is the representative body for national governing bodies of sport in Ireland and other non-commercial sporting organisations. Currently there are 64 different governing bodies of sport and 4 Local Sports Partnerships within the membership of the Federation.

The Federation was established in 2002 at a meeting involving 49 different sporting organisations on the basis that an organisation was required to put forward the “independent voice of sport” particularly in relation to sports policy. With this in mind, the Federation has three primary aims and objectives namely, to raise political awareness as to the benefits of sport, to influence the development of effective sports policy and to provide services and training to its membership.

In 2007, the Federation established Just Sport Ireland an independent dispute resolution service for Irish Sport designed to keep sporting disputes out of the courts. Just Sport Ireland offers a mediation and arbitration facility and is committed to providing a time efficient and cost effective dispute resolution mechanism to Irish Sport.

Emmet Donnelly, Managing Director of GetActive.ie said:

“GetActive.ie couldn’t be happier having teamed up with such a dynamic and innovative organisation in The Federation of Irish Sport. ‘For Sport, By Sport’ is the essence of the Federation and we wholeheartedly share the Federation’s view that sport is both educational and an integral part of our health and well being. GetActive.ie looks forward to working with the Federation and their member National Governing Bodies to promote sport participation.”

Sarah O’Connor, Chief Executive of The Federation of Irish Sports said:

“We are delighted to have teamed up with GetActive.ie. GetActive.ie provides the ideal platform for our members being the national governing bodies of sport and local sports partnerships to showcase their activities around the country. Sport is a vastly under utilised tool in the efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and no doubt part of the challenge is communicating to people what is going on and accessible in their community. GetActive.ie provides a tailor made solution to this communication challenge”
